31 Years in Business
THE YEAR OF ‘INTENT’
Our inspirational key word this year is: “INTENT”
The concept of putting power to intention through word and deed is ancient.
The action to follow through on intent is key.
You need the will to change and the perseverance to do so.
Everything begins with intent.
We intend to continue making our Vision a Reality
___________________________________________________
We head into our 31st year of business knowing that the majority of companies are still in need of implementing and maintaining a basic Occupational Health and Safety Legal Compliance Program.
The reason is simple, Occupational Health and Safety is only one of many legal requirements for business owners and CEO’s to comply with.
Occupational Health and Safety is a ‘back burner’ function, rising on the priority list in relation to the severity of incidents.
Employers have to comply or face unnecessary work stoppages and costs.
Create a strong foundation of compliance basics, a simple process if handled by specialists like us.
If the employer ignores their responsibilities and duties then they had better buckle up tight, it will be a bumpy year.
The exposure level is greater than ever, employees are more aware of their rights, unions are more active in safety, there are a greater number of inspectors nationally and the Compensation Fund reporting incidents to the Chief Inspector.
WHY US
Clients continue to use our services because of our Core Values:
- We are Reliable, Loyal, Honest and Proud of what we do
- We show up on time, get the details right first time, don’t waste yours or others time, focus on the outcome and meet deadlines
- We are also dedicated experts in our field focusing on ‘Meaningful’ Safety
SHIFTING FROM WHAT TO WHY
For us it is not about doing a job, it’s about doing something that makes a difference. Our purpose is higher than profit generation. I strive to have our team act with that purpose on a day to day basis.
WHERE ARE WE HEADED
Every year it is useful to take stock, check bearings and adjust influences.
One has to plan to be better, this requires change which is not an option but a necessity.
In our business we sweat the small stuff. We also need to grow to ensure sustainability.
Growing requires setting goals and working to achieve them.
MY PERSONAL MESSAGE
First and foremost one has to work on yourself.
Staying healthy for maximum effort and possibly a longer life.
Staying focused and current to be the best at what you do.
Lifestyle is a choice, choose to be better and feel good!
Ditch the fads and maintain a balance, this will allow you to have it all without the sacrifice.
I have noticed a lot of ‘after the fact’ situations, don’t keep quiet when bad things happen.
I’m a firm believer that you are where you choose to be, so make good choices.
Of course, being kind and helping those less fortunate than you is essential.
We continue with our random acts of kindness.
When we deal with infrastructure collapse and government dishonesty, an incompetence that affects us daily, stand firm, maintain standards and use your next voting opportunity to make the change.
You have to manage life’s journey, cope with unexpected difficulties and take surprise opportunities, but always focus on the path and not the obstacles to get to your destination.
Prepare and Persist and you will come out on top
Values, ethics and the need for our service remain the basic fundamentals of how we are still in business.
Excellence is the gradual result of always striving to do better
CEO Message 2022
CEO MESSAGE 2022
30th Year in Business
THE YEAR WE ‘STRIVE’
Two years on and we still haven’t shaken off this pandemic. It seems we are slowly coming to our senses realising that we need to control the virus and not be controlled by the virus. The virus strain is weakening, vaccines are available and continued precautionary measures are being maintained (at least in South Africa anyway) which allows freedom of movement to gain momentum. As a company we have survived and certainly made a comeback; we didn’t get this far to get this far.
All employers looking to make this mandatory in the workplace, do your due diligence:
• Conduct a Risk Assessment
• Vaccination Plan to comply with a collective agreement
• Take into account the guidelines set out in Annexure C to the Consolidated Direction on Occupational Health and Safety Measures in Certain Workplaces
Our take on being vaccinated, totally voluntary. If you feel the need then have the jab. Personally I have been vaccinated because I need to travel. Having had and survived COVID I know my circumstances. For those that haven’t contracted the virus your situation is unknown, consider the vaccination.

In order to move forward and be better one needs to set goals.
Why Goals Matter:
Setting goals initiates motivation. You decide where you want to be by a certain time, set out the route, plan the trip and then start. Measuring progress as you move forward. One needs flexibility to accept changes and self-discipline to stay on course.
Our GOAL Overview for 2022:
• Close up on 25% of all outstanding proposals sent to clients last year
• Increase educational training income by 20%
• Reduce overdraft limit by 50%
• Improve on cashflow by holding all clients to 30 day payments
• Comply Online to grow to 20 corporate clients by year end
• Focus and follow up on prospects identified last year
• Update and rebrand all master documents
• Review and improve the agents report process
• Initiate and complete new projects identified for 2022
• Construction division to carry 10 projects progressively
• Continuous improvement through internal Audit Verification

CEO Message 2021
29th Year in Business – THE ‘COMEBACK’ YEAR
What a crazy year it has been with the world being cast into absolute turmoil.
The COVID-19 pandemic came upon us causing the human race to make instant changes in their lives so as to survive.
Our freedom was restricted, some thrived but the majority struggled or folded.
We lost lives and livelihoods.
Nothing that was being done to overcome the pandemic seemed to make sense.
We allowed the COVID-19 virus to control us instead of us controlling the virus.
Our only hope is the vaccine – Bring it on
The one thing we did all learn is that life is unpredictable.
It can change in the blink of an eye and that forces humankind to change, and change we did at Scott-Safe:
- We came together as one to overcome the uncontrollable shutdown of peoples lives and businesses.
- We made adjustments to continue providing an essential service.
- We developed a benchmark system to help business owners and executives reduce the external risk and continue operating.
- We overhauled our business operation, became more efficient, productive and eliminated unnecessary costs.
- We helped those around us to overcome their challenges and did our best to ensure their wellbeing.
- We reviewed and updated our business contingency plans.
- We became leaner and meaner with a greater focus on ‘Value Add’ services.
- We used technology to a greater degree, online virtual meetings, briefs and educational training has become the norm.
- We all became more health conscious and the world became cleaner.
WE ARE EXPERTS IN OUR FIELD, EXPERTISE IS THE TOP SELECTION CRITERIA FOR SERVICE PROVIDERS
A lot has been taken away from us.
We now need to work on getting it back through innovation, creativity, new work methods and hard work.
Our inspirational key word this year is: “COMEBACK”
This has to be a comeback year for our business, clients, associates, family and friends.
WHERE ARE WE HEADED
We did not meet all the goals we set out for 2020 which means we ‘carry over’ those which we failed to achieve. Fortunately this applies to very few on our list.
- Upskilling
- Disrupting the market with our Comply Online program
- Improve inter-personal skills
Our ‘comeback’ strategy for 2021:
- Keep marketing
- Be flexible on service pricing and hold off on annual increases
- Make budget cuts and do more with less
- Develop the Growth Mindset, look for new opportunities
- Retain existing clients with ‘Value Add’ services
- Expand services internally with existing client base
- Upskill staff and agents focusing on becoming more diligent in our work
MY PERSONAL MESSAGE
I am a COVID-19 survivor.
Protecting ourselves from contracting the virus has to be everyone’s main priority in life right now.
Eliminating the risk of exposure is impossible, but following protocol and taking extra care is everyone’s choice, be clever and make the right choice.
We need to commend all the Frontline Workers and Essential Service Providers – Thank you for your dedication.
Here’s what I’ve learnt in the last year:
- Leave room for the unexpected
- Be grateful for what you have
- Do not take anything for granted
- Save for a rainy day
- Build strong client relationships
- Stay connected
- Be available 24/7 as a resource
- Don’t think that it can’t happen to you, be prepared
When one’s mortality is challenged you think differently, there are new priorities in life and suddenly what you doing is far more important than what you have.
My legacy, to inspire people and make a difference in the world – it’s not about where you are now, it’s about where you going to go – your vision develops your legacy.
The ‘comeback’ year – “Against all odds, we come through the end of the world again and again, changed but intact”
Risk is an integral part of business – As is minimising it!
BE CLEVER – CHOOSE TO COMPLY
Kind regards
RODNEY HUGH SCOTT

CEO Update
Greetings to the Scott-Safe Team and Joint Venture Partners
COVID-19 Pandemic
The subject line was a quote by Confucius, he was right, one thing certain things will change, and change they are
The COVID-19 Pandemic has caused major losses worldwide and left many millions of people destitute
For us, not as extensive as most but still a hiccup in our normal operation
We are fortunate and must be very grateful
We have however been proactive and moved with the disaster and its outcomes
We have reviewed the way we operate and have done away with most things that we can do without
All in all I believe we have come out on top by streamlining the business and becoming more cost efficient
28 Years in Business
This is our month end week and our 28th Anniversary in business
I see this as a ‘new era’ for Scott-Safe with many new opportunities presenting themselves and a time to clear out the old
Here’s what’s happening within our Company
We are essentially back in business and have been since our last month end on Friday 1 May 2020
COVID-19 SERVICE
Crazy to say but our saving grace and ‘ball roller’ is the COVID-19 ‘Return to Work’ Bio Risk Assessment service we have offered to all of our contract clients
This service is being promoted by Sales to various other prospects Nationwide
Attached to this service is the COVID-19 Home Safe online program, developed as a Joint Venture with Nikolaus Eberl, again being sold to Company’s who have all those employees working from home
We have done a Joint Venture with Frogg Productions who in association with us have produced an amazing COVID-19 Edu Tainment video and poster series, it’s frigging awesome, you will receive the demo link shortly
For smaller Company’s and those who have multiple branches Nationwide we have developed a COVID-19 Comply Online program with Nikolaus Eberl where responsible line managers can access COVID-19 information, conduct a ‘self’ Bio Risk Assessment and have access to an electronic COVID-19 Symptom Incident Report, magic
Occupational Safety Training Academy
Our Educational Training Academy has gone through extensive revision, no more ‘in class’ courses, all courses converted to correspondence ‘online’
This includes OHS Reps, First Aid, Fire and Fall Risk
On registration the delegates receive their course material by email, this is the followed up with a three hour ZOOM live video presentation from the Frogg Productions Studio (the JV people) in Honeydew
The first one runs tomorrow Monday 25 May 2020 at 12h30
Delegates have the opportunity to raise questions by email, questions are reviewed and answered on a one hour ZOOM live video presentation
The delegates then complete and submit their competency evaluation for marking, all successful delegates receive a certificate
Practicals are conducted by Agents doing one on one coaching whilst on site with their clients
Right now all delegates receive a ‘free’ COVID-19 Protocol for their specific function
We can now put any number of people on our courses from anywhere in the country
OMG this is awesome… because I get to do the first half hour Introduction to all courses on the ZOOM live video broadcast
PS: We have terminated our service agreement with both Des Murley and Craig Steyn, Deon Binneman we will handle OHS Rep, Fire and Fall Risk, we will appoint a new First Aid presenter who has live video presentation skills
Executive Briefings will also be done using the ZOOM live video presentation facility, all other courses will be converted on demand
OMG this is awesome… because I no longer have to drive to the clients premises in the traffic
Around the Country
KZN
– Baltie Erasmus is moving back to the ‘Jungle’, Neil Duncan holds the fort in the last outpost
– The plan of opening an office in Durban has been shelved, no longer a need
CT
– We are closing our office in the Sanlamhof Building at this stage as our contract with Sanlam ends on 31 May 2020
– There is still a possibility that the contract may be extended, if it does the Agents will operate from home through Head Office like everyone else does nationally
– Lynn Nolan has resigned and leaves us at month end
JHB
– We had the opportunity to purchase our offices in Little Falls, however, COVID-19 changed our business modus operandi and our way of operating
– The property market value dropped, our new offer to purchase was declined so we reassessed and made the decision to give notice and move offices with money saving benefits
– We hold our last month end there on Friday 29 May 2020
– What now… even better news… we are moving in with Frogg Productions (the JV people) in Honeydew, they have the space, meeting room facilities and the video studio
– Everyone works from home without exception, meetings with Support Services take place in JHB once a week on a Monday and once a month at month end, why do we need to own offices that stand vacant most of the time?
– Communications infrastructure stays the same, everyone has Company cell phones and email addresses, we transfer and keep our Company incoming landline 011 675 1280 with a message service
– One central Head Office nationwide, greater control and efficiency
Electronic Media
All our business operations will become electronic, not much that hasn’t been converted at this stage
We recruited the service of Brian Binneman to work with Tamara and re develop our website, if you have seen it you will know how fantastic and efficient it is
All sorts of changes and most importantly various ways of getting prospects through call to action methods, Tamara maintains the content
Our Facebook has also been contracted out to Frogg Productions (the JV guys) who understand social media and will make this communication method work for us as ‘Connecting’ in this business world is critical
Exciting Times
Our methods may have changed but our values stay the same
– Honest
– Reliable
– Loyal
– Proud
– Diligent
I will remind everyone of our Vision at month end so that we are all together on the same mission, a self sustainable meaningful Occupational Health and Safety legal compliance service
Stay safe and stay healthy
Kind Regards,
RODNEY HUGH SCOTT

CEO Message 2020
28th Year in Business – THRIVE
As we welcome in a new decade I look around and see a lot of negative media publicity about our economy and talk of a recession.
Much of the talk refers to the government of the country, which right now has a new leader, who has a mountain to climb.
Changing an institution with inherent traits of mismanagement and corruption takes courage and time.
All this doesn’t scare me in the least.
For me ‘HOPE’ is the key.
We have to remain positive and assist with the change in whatever way we can.
This process is referred to as ‘how to eat an elephant, one bite at a time’.
During this transition we must prepare and take extra care.
To bring about change in our country we must change ourselves by being Law Abiding Citizens and maintain high standards of living at all times.
Regardless of the economy and state of the country, Compliance to Statutory Requirements is essential and good Corporate Governance cannot be compromised.
WE ARE EXPERTS IN OUR FIELD, EXPERTISE IS THE TOP SELECTION CRITERIA FOR SERVICE PROVIDERS
Fortunately our business is well structured with a stable client base developed over many years.
This year our inspirational key word is ‘THRIVE’.
We are going to do this by staying focused, adapting to clients’ culture, being flexible and resilient.
WHERE ARE WE HEADED
We have a number of goals set out for the year:
- Review and build our brand to stay current, increasingly competitive and stand out as the preferred service provider
- Get out of our comfort zone by upskilling, joint ventures and innovation
- Disrupt the market with our Comply Online program
- Take advantage of Social Media to expand on existing client service, reconnect with ex clients and increase our client base
- Convert to electronic administration within the company
- Improve inter-personal skills and be empathetic
- Agents to become tech-savvy, provide on site coaching and add value
- Beef-up our company ethics
- Become more visible in the market
PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM THE CEO
Our home is truly magnificent and diverse.
In our country the majority of people are wonderful, hospitable, helpful people.
We must play our role by making small positive gestures every day.
Smile, be polite, respect others, keep South Africa clean, be considerate of others and above all be kind and help out where you can.
Find your purpose and work on it consistently.
I live my life by being the best possible person I can be, a person with Values, Compassion and Rules.
With these characteristics and enthusiasm we can all ‘THRIVE’
